Georgia Cooperative Council

The Georgia Cooperative Council is made up of cooperative members from across the state who are interested in ensuring the continued success of this type of business.  Members come from a variety of companies, including Electric Membership Corporation's (EMC), Farm Credit System, marketing and supply co-ops, rural telephone cooperatives, state, and federal officials.

The Council is a state-wide non-profit cooperative association that was formed in 1968 under the Georgia Cooperative Marketing Act.  In 1990, the name was changed from the Council of Farmer Cooperatives, Inc. to the current designation.  This was done because of the changing needs of the members.

The first objective of the Council is:

"To promote, foster, and encourage all types of cooperative associations in the State of Georgia."

A second objective is:

"To encourage and promote a closer, mutual relationship between all types of cooperative associations in the State to a better understanding of the problems pertaining thereto."

In addition to those objectives, there are eight others with the most important being education of members and other as to the purpose and benefits of cooperatives in the local, state, and national economies.
