Georgia Cooperative Council



The Georgia Cooperative Council was organized in 1968 as the Georgia Council of Farmer Cooperatives, Inc. and was reorganized under our present name in 1990.  The amended and restated Articles of Incorporation state the purposes of the Council are:
 

  1. To promote, foster, and encourage all types of cooperative associations in the State of Georgia.
  2. To encourage and promote a closer, mutual relationship between all types of cooperative associations in the State to a better understanding of the problems pertaining thereto.
  3. To aid in the development and maintenance of the spirit of cooperation among all types al cooperative associations and all other agencies interested in the success of the program.
  4. To assist cooperative associations in acquainting themselves and their members with effective methods of applying the principles and practices of cooperative associations.
  5. To aid cooperative associations, public institutions of learning, and federal and state service agencies in developing educational methods which will ensure a better understanding by cooperative association members and the general public of the principles and practices of cooperative associations.
  6. To encourage the formation and maintenance of soundly planned and efficient cooperative associations in the State of Georgia and conformity with the principles of practical economic justification.
  7. To cooperate with public agencies and public officials, civic organizations, educational institutions and research bureaus, both federal and state, private and commercial business institutions, and all types of cooperative associations, to improve marketing facilities including, but not limited to, transportation, warehousing, processing, storing, wholesaling, and retailing; and to secure a more economical expeditious and efficient handling of products between the producer and the ultimate consumer.
  8. To foster and support at federal, state, and local levels public legislation deemed to be in the best interest of cooperative associations and to oppose measures detrimental thereto.
  9. To consider questions pertinent to cooperative associations in the State of Georgia in all phases of business.
  10. To engage in any other legal activity which the corporation may deem helpful in the advancement of cooperative associations in the State of Georgia and to cooperate with similar associations in other states in the nation.

 


 

In an attempt to meet the objectives of the Council, we carry out the following activities:
 

  1. Conduct the Young Couples Conference
  2. Conduct the Cooperative Youth Conference
  3. Award the Julian A. Raburn Cooperative Service Award
  4. Award Georgia Distinguished Cooperator Awards
