The 2001 Young Couples Conference was a tremendous success.  Georgia was represented at the conference by 16 couples.  South Carolina had 11 couples in attendance, and North Carolina had 8 couples to come.  The couples were able to make new friends and learn about cooperatives in a relaxed atmosphere.  This was the first year that North Carolina has been with us and they added to the enjoyment of the weekend.  Sponsors and presenters included Farm Credit, Southern States, Goldkist, Dairy Farmers of America, Staplcotn, USDA Rural Business and Cooperative Service, Clemson University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Georgia.  For more information, please go here.

Objectives of Conference:

  1. To provide an opportunity for young couples to gain additional knowledge and insight in the economic and service opportunities afforded by their cooperatives.
  2. To provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences in leadership needs in their cooperatives and in their communities.
  3. To provide an opportunity to make new friends.
  4. To find out what young couples are thinking so cooperatives can better serve their needs.  The ultimate purpose is to strengthen the relationship between cooperatives and participating couples.

Cooperatives attending the Conference:

Attending the conference will be representatives of the EMC's, Southern States, Farm Credit Banks, Dairy Farmers of America, Rural Telephone Cooperatives, and other marketing and supply cooperatives.

One of the highlights of the conference will be the opportunity to sit down, in small groups, and talk with "Decision Makers" of the cooperatives attending the conference.

All expenses of the conference, except travel to and from the location of the conference, will be borne by the Georgia Cooperative Council.

The 2000 Young Couples Conference, held at The Ocean Creek Plantation Resort in Myrtle Beach, was well attended and we were extremely pleased how the weekend went.  Thirteen couples from South Carolina and twenty from Georgia attended the event.  They were able to learn a little more about various types of cooperatives, participate in competitive activities, make new friends, and enjoy the beach atmosphere.  This was the largest attendance we have ever had and are hopeful this event will continue to grow in the future.  To see some of the activities and group photos, please click here.
