Stirling Castle

Price $39 includes coach transportation by luxury touring coach, services of English speaking guide, entrances to castle. Lunch on a pay-as-you-order basis. June 30, 1997 Departure from Craighouse at 11:15. Drive to the historic Royal Burgh of Sterling which stands on a bend of the River Forth and is known as the 'Gateway to the Highlands' due to its strategic position. The imposing castle towers above the town in a 250 feet rock overlooking the nearby battlefield of Bannockburn and around the town are various monuments commemorating famous Scottish patriots such as Robert the Bruce and William Wallace who won battles in the continuous struggles between the Scots and the English in the 13th and 13th centuries.

We then continue to one of Scotland's most beautifully scenic areas - The Trossachs region - known as 'the Highlands in Miniature.' A stretch of country only 5 miles wide, The Trossachs have a wild, romantic grandeur; birch-covered mountains, dramatic rugged peaks, tumbling streams, shining lochs, moorland and glen all capture the imagination and invoke the shades of "Rob Roy" and "The Lady of the Lake."

Passing the picturesque towns of Callander and Lochearnhead and continuing to Crieff. Our route then takes us via Glendevon and through Fife to North Queensferry where we cross the estuary of the River Forth via the impressive Forth Road Suspension Bridge. For over 800 years travelers were ferried across the Firth of Forth by the ferry service ceased in 1964 when Queen Elizabeth II opened the Forth Road Bridge - a suspension bridge then the longest of its kind in Europe. Here we can also see the rail bridge of 1883-1890, one of the greatest engineering feats of its time. Return to Craighouse by 18:00.
