Ken Eason - Officer of AGHON, Ag Hill
Council and College Ambassadors
Ken
Eason, a fourth year UGA student with a major in agribusiness, served
as treasurer of the honor society AGHON, treasurer of Ag Hill Council
(2 years) and chairman of CAES Ambassadors. Ken is from Claxton, Georgia
and has been a student at UGA since fall of 2001. He is a member of
the Block and Bridle Club and Collegiate 4-H. In addition, he is active
in intramural sports and a Gaines Elementary School mentor. For the
past three summers, Ken has been a counselor at Rock Eagle 4-H Center
and had the opportunity to influence the lives of thousands of kids
from all over the state. Last summer, he was a lead counselor and was
able to mold and teach a group of younger counselors. During the summer
of 2004 he is serving as a congressional intern for Representative Max
Burns. After graduation, Ken plans to attend graduate school and then
pursue a career in international trade.
Tim Haley - President of Ag
Hill Council
Tim
Haley, a fourth year UGA student majoring in Agricultural Economics
is from Jackson, Georgia. Tim has been a leader on campus, serving as
president of Ag Hill Council, representative on the President's Council
(top 12 student leaders on campus) and Student Life Advisory Committee.
In addition, Tim served as an Orientation leader, Rock Eagle 4-H Center
Counselor and Leadership Counselor, and a member of the UGA Recruitment
Team. He has also been a UGA Cheerleader. During the summer of 2004
he is serving as a congressional intern for Senator Saxby Chambliss.
After graduation, Tim plans to attend law school.
Sara McCall is South Region
Georgia Vice-President of FFA
Sara
McCall, a first year Agricultural Economics major from Rochelle,
Georgia, was Valedictorian and STAR student of her senior class in high
school. She served as the South Region Georgia Future Farmers of America
(FFA) Vice-President. In April 2003, she won the state job interview
competition in FFA, and in October 2003, placed second in national competition.
Rachel plans to attend the UGA Law School after completing the Agricultural
Economics program.
Cam Tribble Served as Intern for Congressman
Jim Marshall
Cam Tribble, an Environmental Economics and Management major from Dublin,
Georgia, spent the summer of 2003 as an Agricultural Intern for Congressman
Jim Marshall in Washington, D.C. Cam worked with the congressman's staff
on agricultural issues and policies. He is vice president of Kappa Sigma
Fraternity, a member of the Agricultural and Environmental Economics
Club and the honorary agricultural fraternity, Alpha Zeta. He has been
on the Dean's List and a President's Scholar. Cam has studied environmental
issues in New Zealand and worked at UGA's Laboratory for Environmental
Analyses as a research assistant for over two years. He plans to enter
the field of environmental law.
Jay Thorne Served as Congressional
Intern for Senator Zell Miller
Jay
Thorne, an Agribusiness major from Conyers, Georgia, spent the summer
of 2003 as an Agricultural Intern for Senator Zell Miller. Jay worked
at the senator's office in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington,
D.C. His duties included attending Agricultural Committee Hearings,
working in the front office, giving Capital tours, attending luncheons,
briefings and banquets and answering constituent mail. On one occasion,
Jay wrote an opening statement which Senator Miller read aloud in an
Agricultural Committee Hearing.
Joel McKie Served as National
FFA Southern Region Vice-President
Joel
McKie, an Agribusiness major from Abbeville, Georgia, served as the
2002-2003 National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Southern Region Vice-President
after serving as the 2000-2001 Georgia FFA President. His duties included
traveling more than 100,000 miles with the five officers on his team,
promoting agricultural education and FFA during his year of service.
He met with leaders in government, education, business and agriculture,
in addition to thousands of FFA members on local, state and national
levels. He also traveled to Japan and helped provide a forum for discussion
of global agricultural and trade issues. Joel received the American
FFA Degree, the organization's highest level of accomplishment. He also
won state and was a national finalist in fiber and oil crop production
placement proficiency. Joel plans to pursue a career in corporate agricultural
law or public service.
Caley White Served as Intern for Congressman
Max Burns
Caley
White, an Agricultural Economics major from Athens, Georgia, spent the
summer of 2003 as a Congressional Intern in Washington, D.C. working
in the office of Representative Max Burns. Her duties included attending
Agricultural Committee Hearings, writing memos for Representative Burns
for those hearings and general office duties. Caley's experience in
Washington was so positive that her career goals now include returning
to Washington and working for a representative. Caley is vice-president
of the Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club and on Wednesday
nights, she teaches three-year-olds at the Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
Brandon Henry Served as Intern
in Brussels, Belgium
Brandon Henry, an Agribusiness major from Chatsworth, Georgia, spent
twelve weeks of the summer of 2003 as an intern at the European Office
of the Georgia Department of Agriculture in Brussels, Belgium. Brandon's
work concentrated on researching how the grocery market across Europe
functions and how Georgia products could penetrate this market, the
European Union's (E.U.) ending its moratorium on genetically modified
crops, the enlargement of the E.U. from 15 to 25 countries and the recently
drafted E.U. Constitution. In the summer of 2002, he participated in
a study abroad program in Xalapa, Mexico and plans to spend the summer
of 2004 in a study abroad program in New Zealand. Brandon has been on
the Dean's List and a Presidential Scholar. He is a member of Alpha
Zeta, Alpha Gamma Rho, the UGA Cattlemen's Association and served as
the 2003 president of the Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club.
He plans to attend graduate school and work in the poultry industry.
Ross Yasin Is Active in Numerous
Clubs and Civic Organizations
Ross
Yasin, a dual Agribusiness and Finance major from Perry, Georgia, was
the recipient of the Dudley Hughes Scholarship. He has served as treasurer
of FFA, vice-president and president of the UGA Campus Civitan Club,
Block & Bridle Sargent at Arms, and vice president and current president
of the Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club. He also served
on the 2002-2003 UGA Meats Judging Team. Not only is Ross active on
campus, he worked with Georgia Special Olympics at their 2003 Horse
Show and on beautification projects, including river clean up at Sandy
Creek Park in Athens. He helped raise money and participated in Relay
for Life and set up a tutoring program with the UGA Campus Civitan Club
and local Athens elementary schools. After graduation, Ross hopes to
work in the financial department of a large agricultural-based corporation.
Bryan Keller is Co-founder and President of the UGA Soil and Water Conservation
Society
Bryan
Keller, an Environmental Economics and Management major from Peachtree
City, Georgia, will graduate in the spring of 2004. He was a co-founder,
vice-president, and president of the UGA Soil and Water Conservation
Society and served as secretary of the Agricultural and Environmental
Economics Club. Bryan has worked for the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation
Commission and is now working for Paragon Consulting Firm. His work
involves webpage design, environmental documentation, construction management,
and civil design, among other things.
Clint Murphy is Chairman of
UGA Ducks Unlimited
Clint
Murphy, an Agribusiness major from the Bay community near Moultrie,
will graduate in December 2004 with honors. He is a member of the National
Society of Collegiate Scholars, a Presidential Scholar and on the Dean's
List. Clint is chairman of UGA Ducks Unlimited, secretary of AGHON,
the Ag Hill representative of the Agronomy Club and a member of Ag Hill,
Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club and Colquitt County Young
Farmers. He is also a volunteer with Georgia Ducks Unlimited and Hunter
for the Hungry and a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Moultrie.
After completing his education, Clint hopes to work in the agricultural
field in a full-time sales job.
Kara Kirchoff Is Vice-President
of the Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club
Kara
Kirchoff, an Agribusiness major from Conyers, plans an early graduation
in December 2004 after only three and one half years at the university.
Kara is vice-president for Agribusiness of the Agricultural and Environmental
Economics Club and is active in numerous other extracurricular and volunteer
activities. She has worked in the department as a student worker for
three years. Kara participated in the Study Abroad Mexico program in
the summer of 2003 and studied in New Zealand and Fiji in the summer
of 2004. She hopes to find employment in the food and fiber marketing
field and pursue a graduate degree.
David Denham Helped his Georgia
Men's Golf Team Win the 2004 SEC Championship
David
Denham, an Agricultural Economics major from Tifton, helped his Georgia
men's golf team win the 2004 SEC Championship. He tied for fifth at
1-over 211. He has been actively involved in golf since he was in high
school where he was four-time Most Valuable Player for Tift County.
David plans to pursue a professional golfing career and is also interested
in golf course architecture and design.
Kathryn Hulst Was Inducted into AGHON, the Honor
Society for Agriculture
Kathryn
Hulst, an Agribusiness major from Brooklet, was inducted into AGHON
during the spring 2004 semester. AGHON is the highest honor for students
in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Kathryn serves
as the standards chair of Sigma Alpha and secretary of the Agricultural
and Environmental Economics Club. She is a member of Block and Bridle
and the Baptist Student Union. She plans to attend graduate school after
graduation.

Jonathan VanDerZee is a Presidential Scholar and
Member of the Golden Key International Honor Society
Jonathan VanDerZee, an Environmental Economics and Management major
from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, has been a Presidential Scholar
four times and is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society.
He is also a staff member of WOUG 90.5 FM and a member of the Georgia
Outdoor Recreation Program. After graduation, Jonathan is considering
joining the Peace Corps and possibly pursuing a graduate degree.
