Gifts to Support
Agricultural and Applied EconomicsThe Agricultural and Applied Economics Department has several development opportunities to be considered. First, the department has already received more than $60,000 in private contributions to support a distinguished professorship in agricultural marketing. Additional support is needed to fully fund the distinguished professorship in this area. The second proposal is endowments for scholarships and assistantships. Scholarships have been established for Dr. William Firor and Dr. Roy Proctor. Additional funds in these scholarships and new scholarships honoring other distinguished agricultural and applied economists would help attract top students and strengthen the department's academic program. Your financial support of the Agricultural and Applied Economics programs is critical and greatly appreciated.
To support the programs of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Department, you can send your contributions directly to the Department or the University of Georgia with a designation for the Department. For more information call 706-542-2481 or contact Fred C. White, Department Head (fwhite@agecon.uga.edu).

Agricultural Marketing Distinguished Professorship
An endowment fund was established in 1984 by a contribution of $50,000 by the Milton M. Ratner Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to establish an endowment to supplement the compensation of a Distinguished Professor of Agricultural Economics in agricultural marketing. Private support was sought to not only match the $50,000, but to add to the fund so it will fully support an distinguished professorship in agricultural marketing. Additional support is needed to fully fund the program. AEAG members, Departmental alumni and friends have contributed to the distinguished professorship. It is now time to complete the endowment and establish the professorship.
The Agricultural and Applied Economics Department offers several scholarships that were established and supported by members of the Agricultural Economics Association of Georgia, alumni and friends.

Funding is needed for Leadership Awards in the Agricultural and Applied Economics Department to support student leadership development. The Leadership Award reflects the importance of educational experiences outside of the classroom. A student organization or student leader could be awarded a Leadership Award.
The amount of each award would vary depending on the needs of the recipient(s). Awards would be given to provide the fullest possible impact, not just on the individual student but on others he/she interacts with. Leadership Awards could also be given to a student club or organization. A student organization or student leader could be awarded a Leadership Award.
Funded activities from the Leadership Awards could include the following.
The need for Leadership Awards far exceeds available funds. Contributions in this area could greatly impact student leadership development.
- Travel for a student to attend national or regional meetings as a club representative to make a student presentation, participate in a contest or to run/serve as a national officer.
- Travel of collegiate teams to regional or national competitions.
- A club or organization activity that promotes the development of teamwork, presentation skills, or problem-solving techniques.
