Comings and Goings

Chris and Beth Ferland welcomed a new addition to their family. Magen Sidney, born Monday, June 16, 2003, 7lb 1oz. and 20 inches long. All are doing well. Photos of Magen.

The Center and the Food Sicence and Technology will co-host the 4th Bi-annual "Starting a Food Business" Seminar in Atlanta, Georgia on August 20, 2003. For information on these seminars Eve Mayes 706-542-2574.

The Center will be participating the May 2003 TAG workshop in Tifton, Georgia.

Kent and Chris will present at the 2003 Beekeepers Association Meeting on May 30 and 31, 2003 in Hiawasee, Georgia

Projects

The Center has completed a market analysis for a value added salad dressing operation in Augusta, Georgia. For details, contact Kent Wolfe.

The Center completed a market analysis for value added snail production operation in Monticello, Georgia. details, contact Kent Wolfe.

The Center completed a preliminary market analysis for a proposed trail riding facility in southwest Georgia. For more details contact Kent Wolfe.

The Center is currently analyzing data from an elementary school teachers survey focusing on attracting elementary school aged children to farm related field trips. For more details contact Kent Wolfe.

The Center is currently collecting data from school food service directors to gauge interest in participating in a farm-to-school food program. For more details contact Kent Wolfe.

The Center is currently with the Food Science and Technology Department to measure consumer awareness and acceptance of radiated food products. For more detailes contact Kent Wolfe.

AGNET - A database containing agritourim and ecotourism activities across the state is now available for use. Please inform us if you or your business would like to be included in this database. For more details contact your county agent.

Resources

Agritourism is expected to grow over the next five plus years. People are looking for get-aways that do not require flying and allow them time to reflect and spend time with their families. These circumstances provide a good opportunity to explore agritourism in Georgia. The Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development presents the findings of an Agritourism study indicating agritourims potential across Georgia. Presentation is available here.
