Georgia Cooperative Council

Young Couples Cooperative Conference

Sponsored jointly by:

Georgia Cooperative Council
South Carolina Cooperative Council
North Carolina Cooperative Council

The 2001 Young Couples Conference was a tremendous success.  Georgia was represented at the conference by 16 couples.  South Carolina had 11 couples in attendance, and North Carolina had 8 couples to come.  The couples were able to make new friends and learn about cooperatives in a relaxed atmosphere.  Owen and Gina Thomason were selected from the Georgia couples to represent them at the 2002 NICE Conference in Chicago.  This was the first year that North Carolina has been with us and they added to the enjoyment of the weekend.  Sponsors and presenters included Farm Credit, Southern States, Goldkist, Dairy Farmers of America, Staplcotn, USDA Rural Business and Cooperative Service, Clemson University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Georgia.

The 35 couples who participated gave the 2001 conference a rating of 4.3 out of a possible 5.    Some of the comments included:

"We had a good fellowship with other couples - it was a great group."
"Interaction with and meeting other couples, especially those from other states was the most enjoyable part."
"Welcome banquet was really great."
"Everything was enjoyed."

Objectives of Conference:

  1. To provide an opportunity for young couples to gain additional knowledge and insight in the economic and service opportunities afforded by their cooperatives.
  2. To provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences in leadership needs in their cooperatives and in their communities.
  3. To provide an opportunity to make new friends.
  4. To find out what young couples are thinking so cooperatives can better serve their needs.  The ultimate purpose is to strengthen the relationship between cooperatives and participating couples.

Cooperatives attending the Conference:

Attending the conference will be representatives of the EMC's, Southern States, Farm Credit Banks, Dairy Farmers of America, Rural Telephone Cooperatives, and other marketing and supply cooperatives.
