Georgia Cooperative Council

The 2008 Youth Leadership Conference was held on July 7-11 at the FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington, GA.  36 students and a team of advisors and presenters were there and a successful week was the result.  To see more about the conference, please go here.

Objectives of the Conference:

The objectives of the conference are to provide cooperative education, heighten awareness of cooperatives in Georgia, explore the cooperative way of doing business and provide leadership opportunities.  

Individual sessions may include:

Personality Assessments:  An activity throughout the conference where participants explore how to work with people with different styles and outlooks.

Co-op Encounter Session:  Participants get an in depth look at the EMC's, Southern States, Dairy Farmers of America, and the Farm Credit System.

Co-ops 101:  Presentation and discussion centering on the cooperative way of business, history, organization, member benefits, opportunities, and current issues.

Co-op/Teambuilding Games:  Balloon races, tower building, word scrambles, egg drops, etc.  New for 2007 was the use of the camps obstacle course.

Who Selects Youth: Applicant must be recommended by a local cooperative manager, county extension agent, agricultural education instructor or home economics teacher. The applicant must identify a sponsor (cooperative), and all applications will be reviewed by a panel of the Georgia Cooperative Council, Inc. who’s decision on acceptance is final.

Youth with the following qualifications:

• leadership abilities
• completed freshman year of high school but not in college
• not previously attended the conference
• sponsored by a cooperative, who pays for the trip
