Car Rental: Consider Renault Eurodrive if you need a car for at least 17 days. Refer to details. Generally, it pays to shop around. Rentals arranged in advance in the United States are usually less expensive than rentals arranged for at the European destination gateway city. For some 300 kilometers (in Portugal) you will be crossing the Alentejo region on a modern motor way. You enter Spain in Badajoz and continue to Cáceres. The landscape is beautiful. You will see bulls, sheep, birds, olive and cork trees. Total distance is 330 kilometers.
From the International Airport in Madrid (Barajas):
Train Madrid-Cáceres:
Take a taxi to the railway station (cost approximately 2.000 pts.).
Puerta de Atocha Station: The Talgo (AC, video, bar) departs Madrid at 8:10 and arrives in Cáceres at 12:03.
Chamartin Station: The Talgo (AC, video, bar) departs Madrid at 15:15 (22:35) and arrives in Cáceres at 18:38 (2.46).
There are additional departures which are not recommended.
Bus Madrid-Cáceres:

Express bus service will cost 2,585 pts and will take about 3 ½ hours. Bus departs Madrid at 15:45 (20:00) and arrives in Cáceres at 19:20 (23:30). Regular bus service will cost 2.390 pts. and will take about 4 hours. Buses depart Madrid at 8:00, 11:30, 14:00, 15:45 and arrive in Cáceres at 11:50, 15:30, 17:50 and 19:35.

We do recommend that you arrive in Lisbon or Madrid on Friday, July 2, 1999 to allow time to get to Cáceres, to have a good night’s sleep and to be able to participate on Saturday, July 3, 1999 in the optional excursion to the village of Robledillo in the high Sierra of Northern Extremadura. WACRA® Executive and Advisory Board members are invited (suggested arrival: Thursday) to a special Board dinner in the Palace of Carvajal in Cáceres on Friday, July 2, 1999.
Accommodations at the Colegio Mayor in Cáceres will be available beginning Sunday, July 4, 1999. Not before!!! The V Centenario will make available rooms at the special WACRA® rates to delegates arriving a few days before and/or leaving a few days after the conference. We have also been informed that the Hotel V Centenario will make available to conference delegates during the conference - free of charge - access to a modern health club within a few minutes walking from the hotel.

For the first night of the 3 day tour - Thursday, July 8 - we will return to the Hotel V Centenario in Cáceres. The following 2 nights - Friday and Saturday, July 9 and 10 - we will stay in Toledo.
