WICS - WACRA® INTERACTIVE CASE SESSIONS

Thursday July 9, 1998 - 9.00 to 17.30.

Pre-conference workshops (separate pre-registration required) will include the Seventh Annual Case Writers Colloquium, the Fifth Annual Cross National Teaching Forum, Foreign Languages and Business Curricula workshop, Teaching with Cases workshop, Multi-media Tele-conference and more.

After the morning workshops at Groupe ESCMP, we offer you some relaxing time at the private Phoenician Tennis Club, a 10-minute walk through the garrigue from campus. The club has 15 tennis courts, a swimming pool edged with grass and a pétanque court. Luncheon will be served outside (at pool side) in a magnificent setting. During the afternoon, the swimming pool and or the pétanque court will be yours to try.

Pétanque is our typical Provençal bowling game that you will discover thanks to our pétanque lovers. We will introduce you to a game which has seduced people all over the world. Bowling is as old as time is - it was well known in Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs; pétanque has a more recent origin. In La Ciotat, not far from Marseilles, longue players (a Provençal game) used to meet on the Beraud Field to play their favorite game. One of the group, Jules le Noir, paralyzed from the waist down, was allowed to play seated in a chair placed in a 20-inch circle. Every other player after him would place himself in the same circle, feet together (Pes Tanques in Provençal) and throw the boule to a distance of 15 to 27 feet. This practice was quickly adopted in La Ciotat and the official name became pétanque.

After this afternoon of leisure, we will walk back to Groupe ESCMP. The hosts will welcome you with an aperitif and a typical Provençal buffet.
